Coriana
Crossbreeding of Arbosana x Koroneiki
Variety obtained by the University of Bari
Oil with high polyphenol content.
Total polyphenols close to 400mg/kg.
More than double that of Arbequina.
- Type of oil, characterized by its bitterness and spiciness, conferred by the high content of polyphenols.
- Improves on Arbequina in Oleic acid.
- Very interesting both as a single variety and as an enhancer of olive oils that may have fallen flat.
Who is this variety for?
Highly recommended for plantations with sufficient water availability where it will provide high yields of EVOO
Of high organoleptic quality (bitter and spicy).
And exceeding the EFSA requirement for healthy oils.
Highlighted Characteristics
Vigor
Medium-low, similar to Arbosana. Its bearing is bushy, not erect, emitting many fruitful branches.
Cold Tolerance
Similar behavior to Arbequina. Under study in colder areas to assess its potential.
Fruit
Similar to Arbosana but ending in a peak reaching veraison with violet hues. It bears fruit in clusters.
Productivity
High, fatty yield equal to or greater than Arbequina. Consistent over the years. It is a variety that gives its best version under irrigation conditions. Very precocious, it maintains its youth only in the first two springs.
Harvest time
Reaches its maximum fatty yield 1-2 weeks after Arbequina with an oil that may have turned from green to tomato notes.
When harvested at the same time as Arbequina, it produces an exceptional oil with a high content of polyphenols and sensory characteristics of spiciness, fruity, and bitterness.
